Looks like beer pong, the anytime of the day college drinking game staple, will be getting a boozy facelift in the near future. According to Adage, Budweiser will be unveiling a new brand named Bud Light Platinum. The new sudsy creation will fall within the 6-8% ABV range. Normal Bud Light sits at a measly 4.2% ABV. What frat boy is going to turn down a beer called Platinum? What better way is there to roll into a party, hoping to get lucky, than double fisting two suitcases of the Platinum.
I recently picked up a pack of Samuel Adams Latitude 48 IPA “Deconstructed.” Sam Adams has brewe this unique India Pale Ale for the last few years. It’s brewed with a blend of five different hops all grown around the 48th latitude line, otherwise known as the “Hop Belt.” They use Hallertau Mittelfrueh Noble hops, East Kent Goldings, Zeus, Simcoe®, and Ahtanum. Always looking to experiment, Samuel Adams decided to take their IPA and break it down. They brewed five single hop beers, a beer for each type of hop.
*WARNING* This is a hop head’s wet dream. If you don’t like IPAs, please refrain from attempting this. Go back to chugging your fizzy yellow beer and draining cups of beer pong with your bros.
Now that we have that out of the way we the real men can continue on with our tasting research. Hopefully you are able to pick up this Deconstructed pack and follow along, if not you’ll have some homework to do afterwards.
I’ve finally decided to start my own beer blog. I’ve thought about a lot of names and I’ve finally settled on “That’s Ale He Wrote.” I hope you enjoy reading my beery posts. If you don’t . . . well it doesn’t matter because I’ll keep posting anyway.
I intend to use this blog to review beers/breweries, provide commentary on current beer events and to showcase a variety of beer-related videos.
Cheers! Slainte! Prost! Na zdorovje! Salud!
